Pope Francis called for abolition of the death penalty as well as life imprisonment
Pope Francis called for abolition of the death penalty as well as life imprisonment, and denounced what he called a “penal populism” that promises to solve society’s problems by punishing crime instead of pursuing social justice, whereas religious figures confirm that it was a Shia demand a long time ago.
The Pope used stressful expressions to demolish the punishment, calling on Catholic politicians around the world to take a brave initiative, where they are role models through the abolition of executions during the holy Church year, which ends in next October / November.
Commenting on the Pope to invite, the representative of Shirazi World Foundation, Sheikh Mohammad Taqi Almakra said in a statement to ShiaWaves agency: “The Shia scholars were aware to abolish the death penalty for many years when consultations with religious figures in seminaries in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Iran began in 1405 AH (1985 AD) for the establishment of global non-violence organization.”
