Kazakhstan’s LLP Aktep has opened a major meat processing plant in the Aktobe region in the west of the country. The new facility is certified to halal standards and will process 7,200 tons of beef annually. It is believed that the project will be instrumental in developing Kazakhstan’s beef industry, which currently faces a lack of processing capacity. The project’s investment cost is estimated at US$6.5m, including US$450,000 allocated by the country’s authorities for local infrastructure. According to company representatives, the production cycle will be based on the latest European technology, and processing will be fully automated. Meat will be produced in quarter and half carcasses, in the form of semi-finished products and minced vacuum-packed products.
