Security Breakdown in Syria Amid Rising Sectarian Killings
…………………..

Syria is experiencing a rapid deterioration of security marked by increasing sectarian-motivated killings, raising fears of a complete collapse of the security system. Observers highlight that lack of legal accountability and widespread impunity have enabled these crimes to proliferate, often ignored by authorities or attributed vaguely to “rogue groups” without thorough investigations.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 12 people were killed or injured over 72 hours across various provinces, including civilians from diverse sectarian and social backgrounds. Some victims were targeted due to prior affiliations or religious identity. Reports also include incidents involving government security personnel.

This surge in violence coincides with rising societal tensions fueled by hate speech and incitement on social media and local media outlets, exacerbating sectarian divisions and retaliatory violence. Human rights groups warn this instability threatens social cohesion and risks a resurgence of organized violence, calling for independent international intervention and impartial mechanisms to document crimes and hold perpetrators accountable.
