An Israeli military incursion into the southwestern Syrian town of Beit Jinn resulted in the death of one civilian and the abduction of seven others, Syria’s Interior Ministry said on Thursday. The ministry reported that Israeli tanks and armored vehicles, supported by drones, entered the town amid gunfire before retreating with the abductees into Israeli territory.

Calling the raid a “flagrant breach of international laws,” Syrian authorities condemned the operation as a violation of the country’s sovereignty. The incident marks a continuation of heightened Israeli activity in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in late 2024.

Since then, Israel has increased strikes on military targets and infrastructure across Syria, asserting control over the buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights. The Syrian government, now led by transitional President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, maintains that it seeks peace and has called for renewed adherence to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
