SDF confronts ISIS in east Syria

Kurdish-led forces in northeast Syria (Rojava) clashed with ISIS in Deir ez-Zor province on Thursday, Rudaw reported.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported that ISIS targeted an SDF position and a support vehicle with an RPG, causing only material damage. Deir ez-Zor, in eastern Syria near Iraq, remains a hotspot for ISIS activity.
The SDF, which played a key role in defeating ISIS territorially, currently holds around 10,000 ISIS prisoners and over 40,000 people with ISIS ties at al-Hol camp. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the US-led coalition and SDF have worked to prevent ISIS from regaining strength. Although ISIS lost territory in 2019, it continues to conduct bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and kidnappings in the region.
