The moon perpendicular to the Kaaba today

Today, the sky of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, will witness the perpendicularity of the growing gibbous moon to the Kaaba.

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Majid Abu Zahra, explained that the moon will rise in Mecca from the northeastern horizon with sunset, which means that it will simulate the high path of the summer sun after 6 months across the night sky, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

He also added that this will be followed by the arrival of the moon at the moment of perpendicularity with the honorable Kaaba at 08:06 pm Mecca time, and it will be at a height of 89.5 degrees above the horizon of Mecca, illuminated by 98.3%, and at a distance of 396.535 km. Abu Zahra also added that the phenomenon of perpendicularity or symmetry is one of the scientific methods to confirm the accuracy of calculations for the movement of celestial bodies, including the moon, which makes determining its location very accurate, in addition to that this astronomical phenomenon can be used to know the direction of the qiblah in a simple way from several regions around the world
