Gunmen Attack School Van in Pakistan’s Punjab, Killing Two Children

In a tragic incident in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province, gunmen opened fire on a school bus, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuries to five others, Al Jazeera reported yesterday.

The attack occurred in a village in Attock district on Thursday morning while the children were en route to school. Local police indicated that the assailants appeared to be targeting the driver, who was also wounded.

Initial investigations suggest a personal motive, with local officials stating that the driver may have had an enmity with someone, potentially related to a feud between families. However, authorities are also exploring the possibility of terrorism as a motive.

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for the best possible medical treatment for the injured. Attock district is near Pakistan’s northwest region, where armed group attacks have increased in recent years, recalling the 2014 Taliban assault on a military-run school that killed nearly 150 children.
