Kuwaitis go to polls in 1st parliamentary elections under new emir

Kuwaiti voters cast their ballot to elect a new parliament on Thursday in the first election since Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah took power last year.

Some 834,733 voters are eligible to vote to choose 50 lawmakers out of 200 candidates for the National Assembly, according to the country’s electoral commission.

It is worth mentioning that the emir dissolved the assembly on Feb. 15 due to violations of the country’s constitution.
