Ten important tips for Arbaeen pilgrims to protect them from high temperatures
The website (webpost), one of the providers of postal and press services in the United Kingdom, provided ten tips for Arbaeen pilgrims of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), to protect them from sunstroke due to high temperatures during their walk towards Karbala.
In its medical statement, which was monitored by Shia Waves News Agency, the website
stated that “millions of pilgrims will go to perform the Arbaeen pilgrimage on foot in the holy city of Karbala, and it requires them to take preventive measures to avoid suffering from sunstroke with the high temperatures.”
It continued, “The temperatures, it seems, will remain high (45 degrees) until after the massive event, and therefore it requires pilgrims to take more care of themselves.”
As for the tips provided by the site, they are as follows:
- Wear loose, cotton and cool clothing as much as possible and avoid carrying extra baggage.
- Drink enough water and hydrate the body to prevent heat stroke.
- Do not consume soft drinks and caffeine as much as possible; because the body will be dehydrated; instead replace it with cold beverages.
- Consumption of ice and very cold water increases body temperature and causes thirst, for this reason, reduce consumption to a minimum.
- Stay away from sweets, fried foods and spices that increase thirst, instead focus on eating fruits, especially watermelon.
- Cut down on hot foods and don’t overeat on the way.
- Wear and apply antiperspirant to prevent heat exhaustion during the day, and take a break in the evening.
- Wear a hat and sunglasses when walking and damp the hat with rose water or water from time to time.
- In the event of fatigue or bruising, take a break from the walk for a few hours and continue after partial recovery.
- Drink water in the morning before going to the pilgrimage. Drink lemon juice and honey and bring some fresh lemon to use in case of thirst or heat stroke.
