Iran Allocates 5,600 Buses to Transport Arbaeen Pilgrims to Iraq Border Crossings

Iran’s Road Maintenance and Land Transport Organization has announced plans to deploy 5,600 buses to transport pilgrims heading to Iraq for the Arbaeen pilgrimage commemorating Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

The organization said the buses are part of Iran’s national passenger transport fleet of around 14,000 vehicles, all less than 15 years old, and will be assigned to medium- and long-distance routes leading to major border crossings.

Pilgrims will be able to purchase tickets through online platforms operated by transport companies and land transport associations, as well as through passenger terminals across the country. Additional trips will be added on high-demand routes to increase transportation capacity during the pilgrimage period.

Authorities said minibuses and taxis will also be used to support short-distance travel, with the highest passenger demand expected at the Mehran, Shalamcheh and Khosravi border crossings.

The organization added that preparations are also underway to support pilgrims traveling in private vehicles by strengthening road service centers along routes to the borders. These centers include road police units, rescue teams and technical support services aimed at improving safety and assisting travelers throughout the Arbaeen season.
