Reports indicate that a missile strike destroyed a girls’ primary school in the city of Minab in southern Iran on February 28, 2026, during the initial phase of US-Israeli military operations targeting the country.

According to Iranian authorities, between 150 and 165 people were killed and nearly 100 others injured, many of them students. The strike reportedly occurred during school hours and has been described by officials as among the deadliest single incidents involving civilian casualties since the escalation of hostilities. Local reports said mass funerals were held as families mourned those killed.

According to Muslim Mirror, UNESCO expressed alarm over the reported attack, stating that educational facilities and students are protected under international humanitarian law. The agency said such incidents endanger civilian lives and disrupt access to education. UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other UN bodies also condemned attacks affecting civilians.

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai said she was appalled by the reported bombing, condemning the killing of civilians, particularly children, and calling for accountability, protection of schools, and an end to the violence.
