Iraq Resumes Flights to Iran After Temporary Suspension Over Security Concerns
……………
Iraq’s Ministry of Transport announced on Monday evening that Iraqi Airways has resumed flights to Iran starting Tuesday, following a temporary suspension due to regional security tensions. The ministry said in an official statement that the decision was made under the direction of Transport Minister Razzaq Muhaibas Al-Saadawi, after close coordination with security and regulatory authorities and an assessment that conditions were stable enough for air travel to safely resume.
In the initial phase, four flights per week will operate: two from Baghdad International Airport on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and two from Najaf International Airport on Wednesdays and Sundays. Iraqi Airways Director General Manaf Abdul Muneim Ajil confirmed that the airline remains committed to its expansion plans to increase daily flights to over 40, with a focus on boosting air travel during the Arbaeen pilgrimage season.
The statement added that the airline plans to ramp up flights to key regional destinations, including Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Bahrain, and Lebanon, to accommodate the expected surge in passengers during Arbaeen and beyond.
