Four dead as desperate crowds storm UN food warehouse in Gaza

Four people have died after thousands of Palestinians stormed a UN World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in Deir al-Balah, Gaza, in search of food, The Guardian reported. Health officials said two people were fatally crushed and two died of gunshot wounds, though it remains unclear who fired the shots. The WFP described the incident as a sign of “alarming and deteriorating conditions” amid a blockade that has cut off food aid for over 80 days.

Separately, one person was killed and 48 injured on Tuesday during chaos at a food distribution site in southern Gaza. Witnesses said Israeli forces opened fire after Palestinians broke through fencing at a centre run by the Israel-approved Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

The Israeli military denied firing at civilians, claiming only warning shots were used. The UN has warned of widespread hunger, with bakeries shut due to lack of fuel and food prices soaring. Aid agencies say more than 70,000 children under five are suffering acute malnutrition.
