Egypt is set to host a G20 meeting for the first time outside the bloc’s member countries since the group’s establishment in 1999. The meeting will take place in Cairo from September 1 to 3, 2025, marking Egypt’s third consecutive year and fifth overall as a guest participant in G20 activities.

Raji Al-Eterbi, Egypt’s Presidential Personal Representative to the G20, highlighted that hosting the meeting reflects Egypt’s regional influence and its significant role in addressing key global issues, especially advocating for the interests of developing and African nations.

The event will be held in coordination with South Africa’s G20 presidency and will focus primarily on the growing global food security challenges. Representatives from G20 member states, guest countries, and international financial organizations are expected to attend.

Discussions will include outcomes from the G20 Food Security Working Group and negotiations on the ministerial declaration, which will be finalized during the G20 ministerial meeting in South Africa later in September ahead of the Johannesburg summit.
