Swedish police have opened an investigation after what mosque officials described as a racist and Islamophobic attack at the Stockholm Mosque, where a defaced copy of the Quran was found on the premises, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to a statement from the mosque’s administration, a copy of the Muslim holy book bearing six bullet holes was discovered chained to the stair railings outside the mosque on Sunday. Messages written in both Arabic and Swedish were also found on the Quran, which mosque representatives said contained language perceived as hostile toward Muslims.

Mahmud al-Halefi, chairman of the Stockholm Mosque, said the incident had caused deep concern within the Muslim community and reflected what he described as a rise in anti-Muslim and racist acts in Sweden. He added that the message accompanying the Quran was viewed as an explicit expression of discrimination.

The mosque leadership condemned the act as deeply offensive and called on authorities to respond decisively to hate crimes. They urged stronger measures to protect religious sites and ensure the safety and rights of all faith communities.
