Four Dead as Two Migrant Boats Capsize off Libya
………
At least four migrants died after two boats carrying a total of 95 people capsized off the coast of Al Khums, eastern Libya, the Libyan Red Crescent said Saturday, Reuters reported. The first vessel, which had 26 Bangladeshi migrants on board, resulted in four fatalities, according to a statement posted on the Red Crescent’s verified Facebook page. The second boat was carrying 69 migrants, including Egyptians and Sudanese, though officials did not immediately confirm their condition.
Images shared by the Red Crescent showed bodies in black bags lined on the ground, while survivors received first aid and were wrapped in thermal blankets. Libya’s Coast Guard and Khums Port Security took part in the rescue, and the recovered bodies were transferred to authorities under the prosecutor’s orders. The incident comes amid a series of deadly maritime disasters involving migrants attempting to reach Europe via Libya’s coastline.
