Bahrain Transfers and Releases Dozens of Political Prisoners Under Open-Prison Program
……………..
Bahrain’s General Directorate of Execution of Sentences and Alternative Sanctions has begun implementing a decision to release and reclassify several political prisoners as part of the country’s open-prison program. More than 51 detainees from Jaw Central Prison were transferred to Al-Hamla Open Prison, where they are allowed to spend daytime hours with their families and return at night, pending full release once legal procedures are completed.
Additionally, authorities at Al-Hamla Open Prison fully released 64 other political prisoners, removing their electronic monitoring bracelets imposed under alternative sentencing. The Prisoners Affairs Authority confirmed the list of transferred inmates. Rights groups welcomed the move but said broader action is needed to secure the release of all political detainees in Bahrain.
