UAE dispatches 30 tonnes of medical aid to Chad to combat cholera outbreak

The United Arab Emirates has sent 30 tonnes of medical aid to Chad to help combat a cholera outbreak, according to a report by The National.

The aid, which includes emergency medicines and medical equipment, is intended to support Chad’s healthcare system.

Several African nations are affected, including Sudan, Ethiopia, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, fuelled by poor sanitation, climate-related flooding and population displacement.

Chad, one of the world’s least developed countries, has struggled with recurring cholera outbreaks for decades, often linked to limited access to clean water and fragile health infrastructure.

The World Health Organization has reported an estimate reaching 511,000 cases and 4,100 deaths globally in 2024, and another stating 390,723 cases and 4,332 deaths in 2025 by mid-August.

Chad has a history of recurring cholera outbreaks due to a lack of access to clean water and a fragile health infrastructure.
