Afghanistan NGO Warns of Rising Polio Risk Among Young Children
———————–
A local non-governmental organization, Polio Free Afghanistan, has warned that children under five in the country face an increased risk of contracting polio due to limited access to vaccinations and poor sanitation conditions, local sources reported.

The group highlighted that many remote and underserved areas have low immunization coverage, leaving young children particularly vulnerable to the virus. Afghanistan remains one of the few countries where wild poliovirus continues to circulate, making vaccination campaigns critical to preventing paralysis and other serious health complications.

Authorities and international partners continue to implement polio immunization and health education programs across multiple provinces to reach children under five and reduce the spread of the disease. The NGO emphasized that sustained efforts are essential to protect this age group and move closer to eradicating polio in Afghanistan.
