Taliban Criticize UN Chief Over Comments on Women’s Rights
——————————-
The Taliban have criticized UN Secretary-General António Guterres, accusing him of a “lack of knowledge about Sharia law” following his recent comments on restrictions placed on women in Afghanistan.
According to a report from the Shia Waves Agency, citing Al Jazeera, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated on the social media platform X, “Our laws are based on Islamic Sharia, and anyone who is not aware of it should not make accusations.”
The Taliban’s response came after Guterres had described the ban on female aid workers in Afghanistan’s earthquake-affected areas as “completely foolish.” Guterres had warned that without the participation of women, it would be impossible to deliver aid to a large part of the country’s population.
