Polio remains threat in Afghanistan, Pakistan, report says

Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only remaining countries with active poliovirus, Khaama Press cited a recent report by an Indian media outlet.

According to the experts, economic weaknesses have hindered Afghanistan and Pakistan from completely eradicating the virus.

Afghanistan has recorded eight confirmed polio cases in the past two years and plans to launch four vaccination programs in 2024, the source confirmed.

The World Health Organization has warned that the expulsion of Afghan migrants from Pakistan and the displacement of populations increase the risk of polio spread in Afghanistan, worsening the already dire humanitarian crisis.
