The United Nations has called on the Afghan parties to put the issue of a humanitarian ceasefire at the top of the agenda, and urged all countries to confirm this call with the start of the talks.
This came during the media briefing of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, who welcomed the formation of the Afghan government last week and the appointments of the Supreme Council for National Reconciliation, stressing that her office continues to call for a comprehensive anti-corruption strategy and an independent anti-corruption committee in the country.
She referred to the pledging conference for Afghanistan that will be held next November and also to the political talks that will be held between the Afghan parties soon, which will determine the course of the country’s future, describing these direct talks as a historic moment for Afghanistan.
