Adam Center for Defending Human Rights and Freedoms has denounced United Arab Emirates’ decision to expel 70 Lebanese Shias.
The center issued a statement on the deportees saying that “such decision is a clear violation of human rights as it was not taken for reasons related to their violations of the rules and law of the country but rather on sectarian grounds.”
Dozens of Lebanese Shias that had lived in the UAE for years were also expelled from the country in 2009 for sectarian reasons. Also in 2013, the oil-rich state of Qatar expelled 18 Lebanese citizens for the same reasons.
The center added that such decision will encourage other Gulf countries to follow the same procedures with Shia nationals.
