20th of Dhul-Hajjah marks week-long celebrations honouring blessed birthday of Imam al-Kadhim, peace be upon him

Imam Musa ibn Jafar al-kadhim, peace be upon them both, was born during the last ten days of the month of Dhul-Hajjah in the year 128 AH in an area between Mecca and Medina called “Abwa”, according to Shia scholars and based on some narrations at hand, although historical sources have not mentioned his exact date of birth.

The supreme religious authority, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi, may Allah prolong his life, has emphasized that the birth of the seventh Imam of Muslims occurred in the month of Dhul-Hajjah, and that the place of birth is further evidence that the Imam’s birth actually took place in this month, referring to the narration of Imam Hassan al-Askari, peace be upon him.

Imam Musa bin Jaafar, peace be upon them both, was known to the public and the elite for staying up all night to worship, and for being tolerant and patient in the face of his enemies, hence was given the epithet “Al-Kadhim.”

Imam al-Kadhim, peace be upon him, endured many hardships and years of imprisonment inflicted by the despotic Abbasid ruler al-Harun, and yet left an invaluable heritage of knowledge and hadith for the Shia Community during his 35 years of Imamate.

To honour this occasion, Imam Hussein Media Group has designated the 20th to 26th of Dhul-Hajjah as the “Kadhimiyyah Week” to revive and commemorate his blessed name and virtues.
