Shia Muslims commemorate martyrdom anniversary of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir
Shia Muslims in Iraq and around the world are commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (peace be upon him), observed on the 7th of Dhul-Hijjah. Mourning ceremonies have been held in Husseiniyas and Islamic centers, honoring the Imam’s legacy and contributions to Islam.
The commemorations began days in advance and are marked by solemn gatherings attended by large numbers of men and women. Participants expressed deep sympathy to the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) and reflected on the Imam’s life and mission.
Mourners told Shia Waves Agency that Imam al-Baqir played a critical role in preserving Islamic teachings, establishing scholarly schools, and confronting deviated ideologies promoted by the Umayyad regime to distort true religion.
They highlighted the injustices and persecution the Imam faced under oppressive rulers and emphasized that his memory lives on as a beacon of guidance. Religious institutions linked to Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi also held lectures and services to honor the Imam’s legacy legacy.
