Shia Rights Watch releases its October report, documenting top anti-Shia attacks
Shia Rights Watch(SRW) released its monthly report for October 2023, documenting the most prominent human rights violations against individuals and Shia Muslim communities in several countries around the world.
The report covered Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, and highlighted the most prominent human rights violations committed against Shia Muslims from October 1, 2023 to November 1, 2023.
In Afghanistan, the report documented the ongoing plight of the Hazara Shias, including deliberate killings, suppression of religious freedoms, and the erasure of the identity of an entire people.
Dozens were killed and injured in a bombing of the Imam al-Zaman Mosque in the Pul-e Khomri district of Baghlan province. In addition, a terrorist group assassinated a Shia member of parliament in Herat province, Sheikh Atayee, by shooting him near his home in the village of Khashmrood.
The report also noted the terrorist bombing of a sports hall in the Afghan capital, Kabul, which killed seven people and injured 20 others.
In Pakistan, SRW’s report documented a terrorist group on motorcycles opening fire on Mr. Zia Hussain and his companion, Akhtar Hussain, in Gulshan-e-Hadid area of Karachi, killing both of them.
The report also documented the assassination of police inspector Amir Ali by a terrorist group in the Maymar area of Karachi. It also documented the assassination of Shia security officer Mirza Shabar Hassan Baig in Quetta, as well as the systematic killings of Shias in Parachinar, west of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
The report noted the killing and injury of dozens of Shias in the city of Kurram by attacks carried out by unknown armed persons, killing (30) and injuring (50) of the city’s residents.
In Bahrain, the report documented many cases of arrests of Shias in different parts of the country, including the towns of Aali, Jidhafs, Bani Jamra, Karrana, Sanad, Tubli, Al-Marakh, Al-Kharijiyah, Darz, Al-Qarya, Karkazan, and Al-Diya.
In Kuwait, the report documented the statements of a preacher affiliated with extremist Salafi thought, named Osman Al-Khamees, who made inflammatory statements in a live interview calling for the killing of Shias, after accusing them of apostasy.
In Saudi Arabia, the security authorities arrested the Imam of the Imam al-Kazim Mosque in the town of Safwa, Sayyid Hamza Al-Sada, after raiding his home, tampering its contents; as his fate remains unknown, according to the report.
In Iraq, the report documented the discovery of a mass grave of Shia citizens who were caught by terrorist organizations in the city of Fallujah, after the confession of a member of the ISIS terrorist organization who was recently arrested.
