At least 19 people killed, 38 injured in sectarian violence in Pakistan’s Kurram

At least 19 people were killed and 38 others injured in sectarian violence in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.

Acts of violence were triggered by unidentified armed men who killed two Shia workers.

According to Radio Free Europe’s Radu Azadi, violence erupted on Monday in six areas of Kurram district and resulted in the deaths of 19 people and the injury of 38 others.

Informed sources said that the attacks were carried out by terrorists to incite sectarian violence between Shia and Sunni sects in order to carry out their agendas and inhumane crimes.

The sources added that the number of victims reached 30 deaths and 50 injuries. However, the Pakistani authorities have announced that the death toll is only 19 people.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Kurram district, Syed Saif-ul-Islam, said that “members of the National Assembly from the Orakzai and Hangu regions have started efforts to reach a ceasefire in the region.”

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan has been witnessing continuous attacks and violence by terrorist groups aimed at eliminating the Shia presence in the province.
