Nigerian Shias file petition against illegal destruction of their properties

A group of Nigerian Shias have petitioned the Kaduna State High Court of Justice to issue a permanent injunction to stop the illegal destruction of their property by the state governor, Nasser al-Refai, and his supporters.

In the summons prepared according to Article 3 of the Constitution, the applicants have asked the court to declare that the plaintiffs are the owners of their property and land and will not allow this property to be taken away from them.

According to this petition, the defendants do not have any legal authority to destroy the property of the plaintiffs.

The event occurred amid repeated orders by the governor of Kaduna state to demolish Shia schools and residential houses.

Part of the filed complaint states: Many of the lands that are given to Shiites for the purpose of building an Islamic school are confiscated by the authorities of Kaduna state.

Earlier, Nigerian Shiites demanded the trial of the governor of Kaduna State in the International Criminal Court for genocide and crimes against humanity.

In the petition sent to the International Criminal Court, a request was made to prosecute al-Rifai for the actions he has taken against Shiites.
