Illegal Mediterranean crossings to Europe increased by 300%

Illegal crossings into the European Union through the Mediterranean Sea have increased by 300% since the beginning of 2023.

According to the European Union border agency, the number of illegal immigrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea to enter the European Union during the months of January to April has increased by 300 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

It should be mentioned that, during the first 4 months of 2023, official records show that about 4,200 individuals tried to enter the European Union, which is the highest registered figure since 2009.
