The two warring factions in Sudan have agreed to a seven-day ceasefire, the foreign ministry of South Sudan said in a statement Tuesday.
The ceasefire agreement, which is supposed to start on May 4th and last until the 11th, was achieved through the mediation of South Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Clashes between Sudan’s military leader Abdul Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the commander of paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), broke out on April 15th after months of tension over the political future of the country and plans to integrate the RSF into the country’s army.
These conflicts have caused considerable casualties to both civilians and warring parties, while displacing thousands of Sudanese.
It should be mentioned that more than 500 people have been killed and 4000 others have been injured in these clashes.
The United Nations has recently announced that these conflicts have displaced 100,000 people, worsening the already-severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
