The World Food Programme said in a new report that the number of Nigerians living below the poverty line has risen to over 133 million while another 4.3 million face severe hunger in the terrorists-ravaged Northeast region.
The UN-affiliated organization noted in its report that armed conflicts in the Northeast region has left 4.1 million people in food insecurity in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states, out of whom, three million of them are in Borno State, the epicentre of insurgency.
WFP added that periodic droughts and flash floods had a severe impact on local agriculture.
