New research paper on relationship between conflict and organised crime in Afghanistan

A new research paper has been presented on the relationship between conflict and organised crime specifically in Afghanistan.

The paper gives an account of the already existing literature on Afghanistan’s crime and conflict, identifying some of the key insights that has led the country in to nearly four decades of extreme conflict.

The key themes in the research paper are exploring how conflict has fuelled organised crime in Afghanistan; how organised crime has fuelled conflict; how conflict over the control of illicit markets has resulted and how organised crime has contributed to the erosion of the state.

The paper identifies knowledge gaps and suggests areas for future research.
