20th of Sha’ban marks death anniversary of late Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi Shirazi
Born in Tehran, Iran’s Capital, in 1275 AH, the late Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi Shirazi, known as Sultan al-Wa’eedin Shirazi, had the permission of ijtihad and the permission to report narrations from some scholars and authorities, including: Sheikh Abdul Karim Haeri, Marashi Najafi, Sheikh Abdullah Mamqani, Seyyed Abul Qasim Tabatabai Gharavi and Agha Zia Iraqi.
While traveling to different countries including India, Egypt, Jordan and Palestine, he participated in debates with scholars of different religions. Gandhi, the political-spiritual leader of India, participated in his debate session with the Brahmins.
His unique qualities such as, strong memory, comprehensive knowledge, patience, tolerance of opposition and readiness to answer questions made him an outstanding character who could overcome his opponents in debates.
The most important examples of these debates are collected in the book “Nights of Peshawar”, which contains the debates between Sultan Al-Waezin Shirazi and the Sunni scholars of Pakistan.
These debates were held for ten nights in the city of Peshawar, Pakistan in 1305, and in the house of Mirza Yaqub Ali Khan Qazalbash, which led to the conversion of 6 scholars and elders of Sunni trades and tradesmen Pakistan.
His efforts, especially in the debates with the Sunnis, opened a new chapter of openness and argumentation, and set a great example for the logic of the discussion of the Shiite scholars in defense of the foundations and teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them.
Sultan al-Waaziin died in Tehran in 1971, equal to the 20th of Sha’ban al-Ma’zam, 1391 AH, and was buried in the Abu Hossein cemetery of Qom.
