Aid for earthquake victims in Syria has hit a roadblock, with approval issues delaying the flow of aid from government-controlled areas into territory held by hardliner opposition groups.
According to a United Nations spokesperson, the hold-up is due to concerns raised by the Islamist Sunni group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
The announcement comes just a week after the Syrian government publicly declared its willingness to send aid to the northern zone, which was heavily impacted by the recent earthquake.
The zone is largely under the control of HTS. The earthquake caused widespread destruction and displacement, leaving countless individuals in dire need of assistance.
The delay in aid delivery only adds to their suffering.
