UN calls on Burkina Faso to quickly investigate killing of 28 people

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, called on the transitional authorities in Burkina Faso, where terrorist attacks frequently occur, to expedite a transparent investigation into the killing of 28 people whose bodies were found at the end of last week.

Türk commended the authorities’ announcement that they would investigate the circumstances of finding the bodies in the northwest of the country. Burkina Faso, a landlocked West African country, is one of the world’s poorest and most volatile countries.

Since 2015, it has faced a rebellion led by terrorists linked to the “Al-Qaeda” and “ISIS” organizations, which led to the death of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of nearly two million.
