The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement has revealed the return of more than one million and 350 thousand IDPs (240,140 families) from displacement camps in the country’s governorates to their original residential areas liberated from ISIS terrorists during the past year.
An official at the ministry, Ali Abbas, said in a statement, “Anbar province topped the list of governorates most receiving returnees during 2019 with the return of 89,224 families, followed by Salahuddin Governorate with the return of 61,055, and Nineveh ranked third with 44,383 families.”
Abbas added, “The number of returnees to Kirkuk reached 19,132 families and to Diyala 13,926 families.”
He stressed, “The Ministry continues to encourage displaced families to return voluntarily to their areas of origin.”
