European Parliament calls on the UAE to immediately release human rights activists

MEPs demanded the immediate release of all human rights defenders, political activists and peaceful dissidents in the UAE.
The European website highlighted the decisions adopted by the European Parliament, last Thursday, regarding the human rights situation in the UAE, Kenya and Cuba.
The website said that members of parliament demanded the immediate release of all human rights defenders, political activists and peaceful opponents in the UAE, who were imprisoned solely for exercising basic human rights such as freedom of expression, association and peaceful movement.
The European Parliament urged the UAE authorities to ensure that Ahmed Mansoor and all other prisoners are treated in line with the United Nations rules for the treatment of prisoners, pending their release, in particular the release of Ahmed Mansoor from solitary confinement.
The resolution called on the European External Action Service to propose the adoption of targeted measures against those responsible for gross human rights violations in the UAE, under the European Union’s global human rights sanctions regime.
The resolution was adopted by 383 votes in favour, with 259 abstentions.
