Pakistan: Extremists attack Shia mourning ceremony, wounding a number of mourners


Pakistani media said that a group of extremists attacked a religious mourning ceremony for the Shias in Karachi, on Monday, wounding a number of mourners.
The media said, “A group of extremists attacked a mourning ceremony for Shia Muslims that was held on the occasion of the demolition of the graves of al-Baqi, and attempted to assassinate the Shia cleric Thabit Ali al-Najafi during his participation in the ceremony.”
It added that “the attack resulted in the injury of a number of Shia mourners,” explaining that “the city police charged the perpetrators with attempted murder.”
According to documents related to the case, followed by Shia Waves, the attackers were charged and registered in accordance with Article 296 of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
Several Pakistani cities are constantly witnessing terrorist attacks by extremist parties and movements against the Shias in the country.
