Online solidarity campaign to denounce the crime of al-Baqi demolition

The Al-Baqi International Foundation, based in Saudi Arabia, called for a 24-hour online solidarity to mark the eighth day of the holy month of Shawwal, which is the memory of the demolition of al-Baqi graves by the Wahhabis.
“We plan to commemorate the tragedy of the demolition of Jannat al-Baqi on the eighth of Shawwal from all parts of the world, by organizing an online solidarity campaign and social networking sites over the course of 24 hours, to denounce this heinous crime,” the foundation said in a statement received by Shia Waves.
It added, “Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization will establish its solidarity and protest online, with the participation of many scholars, activists, volunteers, academics and community members.”
The foundation stressed the need to “revive this painful day by Muslims all over the world, by holding seminars, vigils and mourning ceremonies, and by lighting candles in front of homes, as a reminder of this painful calamity.”
In the same context, the Al-Baqi Foundation announced the establishment of a mourning ceremony at Imam Hussain Holy Shrine on the occasion of the commemoration of the demolition of the pure graves in Baqi Al-Gharqad, at nine o’clock tomorrow, in cooperation with the Holy Shrine, where Mullah Bassem al-Karbalaey will recite elegies on the event.
