Ahlulbayt followers in Nigeria revived the painful tragedy of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, while asserting that the persecution of the Shias continues by the current government.
Mourners participated in a procession to commemorate the painful memory, pledging to follow the path of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, despite the injustice and persecution they have been subjected to by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, which they described as a plot against the Shias.
The Daily Post quoted Ibrahim Musa, the director of Shia media in Nigeria, saying, “There is a conspiracy led by the government against Shia Muslims in the country.”
In his speech, which was followed by Shia Waves, Musa pointed out that “the persecution and extermination of the Shias began with the Zaria massacre, which was carried out by the Nigerian army in December 2015,” stressing that “the government accuses the Shias of terrorism.”
Musa accused the government of supporting “spreading evil messages, through an anonymous group that claims to be part of the Islamic Nigerian Movement and is fighting for the release of the imprisoned leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki.”
Musa explained that “the Shias do not consider terrorism to be a means to achieve their goals and religious freedom, but rather through the use of peaceful means and their practice through religious activities.”
