The Islamic world remembers the tragedy of bombing the dome of al-Askariyain Holy Shrine


Fifteen years ago, the al-Askariyain Holy Shrine witnessed the most heinous crime. One of the largest domes in the Islamic world was bombed by terrorists who intended to stoke sectarian flames in Iraq.
Muslims worldwide and the Shias commemorate this calamity with grief, which revealed to the world the extent of the harm suffered by Shia Muslims and their religious sanctities.
The Shia religious authorities called on all the lovers of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, to revive this tragic occasion, so that the international community and human rights organizations would examine the harm it caused to all the loyal and free people in the world.
The office of the Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, in the holy city of Karbala, issued a statement denouncing the attack on the Holy Shrine of Imam Hassan al-Askary and Imam Ali al-Hadi, peace be upon them, stressing that “it denotes the spirit of disdain for the Islamic sanctities by its perpetrators and called for public mourning for a week, protests and condemnation by various peaceful means.
On that tragic day, the United Nations, and most Arab and Western countries, condemned the great tragedy that befell the holy dome of the Holy Shrine.
