Najaf to receive the Pope, with messages of peace and human brotherhood
Iraq will welcome Pope Francis on Friday, March 5th, in his arrival to Baghdad International Airport.
The Pope will visit the city of the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, Najaf, and meet the religious authority, His Eminence, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
The Patriarch of the Chaldeans in Iraq and the world, Cardinal Louis Sako, confirmed that the Pope’s visit carries a message of great support for the Iraqi situation and focuses on respect for life and peace.
Cardinal Louis Sako said earlier, that he hopes that Pope Francis and Grand Ayatollah Sistani will sign the “Human Fraternity for World Peace” document, which is a multi-religious text condemning extremism.
He added, “The visit will be private, and the two parties will discuss a framework for condemning anyone who attacks life.”
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Iraq from the fifth to the eighth of March. His visit includes Baghdad, Najaf, Mosul and the ancient city of Ur, the birthplace of the Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him.
