The closure of more than 600 religious schools ignites anger in the Indian state of Assam

The decision of the government of the Indian state of Assam to close religious schools sparked widespread anger among Islamic institutions and educational centers, as well as strong rejection by members of the opposition Congress.
The Minister of Education and Finance in Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, presented a draft law on education in regional schools to the House of Representatives, which provides for the closure of religious schools in the state, which number more than 600 schools.
The National Herald said in a detailed report, followed by Shiawaves, that “The Minister of Education and Finance Himanta Biswa posted a tweet to her on Twitter, in which she said that once the bill was passed (by the House of Representatives) the practice of running religious schools and turning education into secular will end “.
Earlier, Sarma said that the state government decided to make education (secular) and 620 religious schools run by the state government will be closed and converted into public schools.
In her recent decision, Sarma protested that “the state government was spending 260 crores annually to run religious schools and the government cannot spend public money on religious teaching.”
“It is not possible to allow the continuation of teaching the Quran at the expense of the government treasury. ”
For his part, the Congress and the All India Democratic United Front strongly opposed the bill and said that they would restart school education after they came to power in the assembly elections scheduled for April of next year.
