ADHRB holds “Citizenship in Bahrain: Right or Privilege” webinar

Americans for Democracy and Human Rights Organization held a webinar titled, ” Citizenship in Bahrain: Right or Privilege”.
The webinar shed light on the crisis of revoking citizenship in Bahrain, as a method used by the authorities to suppress dissent and restrict and intimidate activists.
The director of the organization, Hussein Abdullah, opened the webinar by talking about his citizenship, which the authorities revoked upon his departure from Bahrain, as is the case for many of the activists, who lost their citizenship only because of their opposition to the government of Bahrain.
Meanwhile, legal advisor Zahra Al-Barazi confirmed that revoking citizenship in Bahrain is an overt matter and not hidden, because the authorities consider this to be legal, and she pointed out that revoking citizenship is an effective means of suppressing activists, and it is a punishment so that one cannot enjoy and exercise his/her rights.
For her part, Mona Ben Gargah, head of the CIVICUS organization, stressed that citizenship is a right, not a privilege, and considered revoking it as a means of suppressing civil society, and this is one of the most serious violations that can happen.
