A new guide has been issued for journalists reporting on Muslims and Islam.
The Independent Press Standards Organization has produced the guidance, which outlines key questions for journalists to consider and includes relevant case studies.
The publication also offers contextual information about Muslims and Islam in the UK.
The guide was welcomed by some human rights organizations and lobbyists, including the organization, “Tell Mama”, which supports victims of Islamophobia and hatred against Muslims.
Organization founder, Fiyaz Mughal, described the new publication as an excellent balance achieved by the organization after deliberations and consultations with its publishers, various community activists and other organizations, as there is not always a plurality of thought and opinion.”
“I strongly believe that any faith or ideology must be open to critique and that opinions by writers in publications should be protected,” he added.
The Independent Press Standards Organization, commonly known as IPSO, is the largest regulator for most of the UK newspapers and magazines.
