The Imam Hussein Holy Shrine announced that some seven million Shia pilgrims took part in a special ceremony to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
According to reports, this year’s TewreejRun was held with the massive participation of millions of devoted pilgrims.
During the run, which was held yesterday after the noon prayer, the pilgrims march from Tweerej district, just outside Karbala, to the holy shrine of al-Abbas, peace be upon him, and then to the holy shrine of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
The sacred ritual of Tatbeer was also practiced by a large number of pilgrims in remembrance of the suffering imposed on Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, his family and his companions, by the tyrant of the time Yazid, may Allah curse him.
