At least 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed after a roadside bomb targeted a military convoy near Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, on Friday, April 25, 2025. Pakistani media reported that the blast occurred in the Margate area, with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group, claiming responsibility.
The BLA said it used a remotely detonated device, destroying a military vehicle and killing all personnel onboard. The attack highlights the fragile security situation in Balochistan, where separatist violence has been on the rise. In November 2024, a deadly explosion at Quetta Railway Station killed 26 people.
The BLA, designated a terrorist organization by Pakistan and several Western countries, seeks greater autonomy for the ethnic Baloch population. Balochistan remains economically underdeveloped despite its resource wealth, fueling long-standing grievances.
Analysts warn that ongoing instability could impact major projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and regional security efforts.
