Israeli airstrikes resume in Gaza amid ceasefire collapse

Israeli airstrikes and ground operations have resumed across Gaza after the collapse of a two-month ceasefire, displacing thousands and causing heavy casualties, news reports said. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported at least 91 deaths on Thursday, including over 200 children since the renewed offensive began.

Residents in Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun, Shejaia, and parts of Khan Younis were ordered to evacuate as Israeli forces intensified their operations. Leaflets were dropped warning people to flee, with many seeking shelter in makeshift camps.

The Israeli military confirmed its expansion into central and northern Gaza, including the Netzarim corridor, which it describes as a buffer zone. Hamas, which initially refrained from retaliation, later fired rockets into Israel. Negotiations to extend the ceasefire failed, with Israel insisting on military pressure to secure hostage releases.

More than 49,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023, according to Gaza’s health authorities, with large parts of the enclave in ruins. Large parts of Gaza have been reduced to rubble, and reportedly all medical facilities are now out of operation.
