Indonesia begins Ramadan amid festivities and economic concerns

Millions of Muslims across Indonesia have kicked off Ramadan with vibrant celebrations, following the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon in Aceh. In Jakarta and other major cities, mosques were filled with worshippers and communities marked the occasion with torchlight parades and traditional music.

As families prepare for predawn suhoor meals and elaborate iftars after sunset, the spirit of the season is evident in the bustling markets where shoppers buy sweets, new clothes, and home decorations ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

However, rising food prices and economic challenges have also sparked concerns among residents, with traders and consumers alike noting increases in both imported and local commodities, as well as higher costs for utilities.
