The European Commission has initiated a Humanitarian Air Bridge to deliver essential supplies to Syria amid recent political upheaval, media outlets reported on Friday.
The EU has increased its 2024 humanitarian funding to over €160 million, targeting health care, shelter, and food needs through partners on the ground.
Flights carrying 50 tons of health supplies from Dubai and 46 tons of essentials from Denmark will deliver aid to Adana, Turkiye, for distribution in Syria, news reports confirmed.
This support comes after the collapse of the Assad regime and aims to assist over 61,500 people in northern Syria. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of swift aid during this critical transition.
